Welcome to Owen County!

picture of Billy O'BanionOwen County is truly the Heartbeat of the Golden Triangle.  Located entirely within the boundaries of I-75, I-71 and I-64, we are less than a one hour drive from Lexington, Louisville and Cincinnati, OH.

Our county has a wealth of natural beauty with numerous lakes, streams and rolling ridges providing top quality fishing and hunting opportunities in the Commonwealth.

The Kentucky River borders the entire western boundary of our county.  Eagle Creek, the world’s longest creek, flows through Owen County.  Elmer Davis Lake, managed by Kentucky Fish & Wildlife provides some of the best bluegill/crappie fishing in the state.

Pheasant Ridge Hunt Club (External Link - You are now leaving the .gov domain.) and Elk Creek Hunt Club (External Link - You are now leaving the .gov domain.) provide professional bird hunting and shooting sports recreation.

Visit Perry Park Golf Resort (External Link - You are now leaving the .gov domain.) and Fairway Golf Course (External Link - You are now leaving the .gov domain.) for group and individual play.

We invite you to visit Elk Creek Vineyards (External Link - You are now leaving the .gov domain.), Kentucky’s largest winery, currently producing eighteen varieties of wine.

The Kentucky Jamboree (External Link - You are now leaving the .gov domain.), hosted by the Robinson Family, brings quality family entertainment at their "Home in the Hills" on Swope Road.

These are just a few of the attractions that make Owen County a great place to visit and an even better place to live. So come and experience our great people and gracious rural atmosphere that is just minutes from everywhere.

Our motto says it best: Owen County... Pretty - Quiet - Close.

Animal Shelter Project

The Owen Co. Fiscal Court has begun the process of trying to construct a new Animal Shelter.  The design of this structure is for a 1300 square foot building with 12 kennel areas.  This building will be under roof and will have HVAC meeting state standards.

At the present time, we are taking bids for the construction of this facility to find out how much additional money will be needed to finish this project.  Right now, the Fiscal Court has slated $50,000 towards this project.  We have received additional donations from:

Kentucky American Water     - $2,000
Private Donation(Individual)  - $500
Private Donation(Individual) -  $100
Owen Electric                     - Labor & Materials
Bernie Engelman                - Architectural Services
Chamber of Commerce        - $500
Private Donation                - $500

We have asked for help from the Owenton City Council and the Owen Co. Chamber of Commerce and we are awaiting responses from those requests.  To anyone reading this message, we would ask for you to consider a donation to this project.  Although this facility is not large enough to serve our needs, we have designed this facility so that as money becomes available, we can expand very easily.

If you would like to donate, please make your check payable to the Owen Co. Fiscal Court and mail it to 100 N. Thomas St., Owenton, KY 40359.  Donations are tax-deductible.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions by email or by phone at 502-484-3405.

Thank you,
Judge Billy O'Banion
